A spring that lets go years earlier, or later, than the rule of thumb suggested
Why it happens
Spring life is denominated in open-and-close cycles rather than in years. Deadlock's spring page puts most torsion springs at around 10,000 cycles and converts that to roughly seven to ten years for an average home, while B&D's published spring cycle ratings run from 10,000 to 30,000 depending on the model.
Why it matters
The years figure is arithmetic performed on an average household. Maroochydore's occupied private dwellings were split almost evenly between separate houses at 37.5% and flats at 36.6% at the 2021 Census, so the household that average describes is not an obvious fit for the one you live in.
Response
Spring tension and balance, and cable and drum inspection, are documented inclusions in Deadlock's standard service. Thom carries common torsion and extension springs, so it is worth asking what is on the van when you call.
