Most repairs come down to one worn part. A cable frays, a roller cracks, a bracket works loose, or the door jumps its track and runs crooked. Thom finds the part that failed and works out why, so the same fault doesn't come straight back. Roller doors, sectional doors and tilt doors all get the same approach.

A service checks and adjusts the spring balance, lubricates the rollers, hinges and tracks, tightens the bolts and brackets, inspects the cables and drums, and tests the opener. Once a year suits most homes. Closer to the beach, salt air wears parts faster, so it pays to check more often.

Springs do the heavy lifting, and they wear out. When one snaps you'll often hear a bang, and the door suddenly feels far too heavy. Cables fray and can snap too. Both hold a lot of tension, so leave them alone and call. Thom replaces the spring or cable, then balances the door so the opener isn't straining.

An opener that hums, stalls halfway or reverses for no reason isn't always finished. Sometimes it's a single part. Sometimes the door is out of balance and the motor can't cope. Thom tests the opener and the door together, then tells you whether a repair will do or a new motor is the better call.

Standard hours are 6am to 6pm, seven days. Outside that, Thom takes emergency callouts 24/7. That covers a door stuck open overnight, a snapped spring or cable, and a car trapped inside the garage. Call, tell him what's happening, and keep clear of the door until he arrives.
