The double door jerks, sags or feels heavy
Why it happens
Springs have lost tension or passed their rated cycles. Most torsion springs are rated for around 10,000 cycles, roughly seven to ten years in an average home.
Why it matters
An unbalanced double door strains the opener and can drop quickly if lifted by hand, and a sudden spring failure can leave the car trapped inside. Signs to watch for: door won't stay halfway, opener slows or labours, one side lower than the other.
Response
Spring balance is adjusted where the spring is sound, and garage door spring repairs replace springs that are worn or broken.
